Authorities report that Chavez admitted to consuming alcohol and marijuana on the day of the crash, which occurred when he allegedly ran a red light and caused a multi-vehicle collision.

Chavez, who has a prior DUI conviction from 2021, faces six felony charges. He has posted a $250,000 bail and will be subject to high-level electronic and alcohol monitoring, with restrictions on driving and alcohol consumption. A preliminary hearing is scheduled, and if probable cause is found, the case will proceed to district court.

Police said Chavez ran a red line at the intersection of Blue Diamond Road and South Las Vegas Boulevard Saturday afternoon slamming into another car that was turning left that led to a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles. According to officials, Chavez admitted to having three alcoholic drinks and using marijuana on the day of the crash after yet another suspected DUI crash that resulted in a death on our roads. District Attorney Steve Wolf said has a message for Las Vegas. I'm challenging this community. I'm challenging the people in the Las Vegas Valley to slow down. Leave your home a little earlier. If people did that, lives would be saved. The DA's office revealed that Chavez was also previously convicted of driving under the influence back in 2021. Chavez has been charged with six felony charges. His $250,000 bail has been posted. He will have high level electronic monitoring and an alcohol monitoring device for the length of this case. He will also not be allowed to drive or have any alcohol. A preliminary hearing has been set for September 22nd. If probable cause is found, DA Wolfson says in this case will be sent to district court and a trial will be set outside the Clark County Justice Center. I'm in Isabel Hannan.
