A murder investigation is underway at Manly Heights Shopping Village in Brisbane after a body was found lying between two garbage bins. Police say the man was the victim of a brutal and violent attack.

Police are investigating the suspected murder of a man in his forties, whose body was discovered between two garbage bins at the Manly Heights shopping village in Brisbane's east. Emergency services responded after a member of the public raised the alarm, and the area has since been closed off for forensic examination.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death but confirmed the victim was a local resident. A 45-year-old man is assisting police with their inquiries after being taken into custody on unrelated matters, though his connection to the victim remains unclear. Police are urging anyone with information or relevant security footage to come forward as the investigation continues.

Emergency services rushed to the Manly Heights shopping village in Brisbane's east where they found the victim in his forties. We believe that the victim was on foot prior to the attack. Police have also yet to reveal exactly how the man was killed but confirmed he is a Manly Heights local. Detectives are still currently trying to provide notification to the next of kin. Residents woken by the sights and sounds of sirens. It's a very sleepy type of area so it's a safe type family community area so for something like this to occur it's very very unusual. The shopping village remained closed off today swarming with forensics. We've never had any problems around here. Police are now leaning on the public for help calling on anyone who may have seen people walking around the shopping centre in the early hours of this morning. As well as footage from security cameras and car dash cams. Whilst you might not think it shows anything it could be very compelling for us. Tonight a 45-year-old man is assisting police with their inquiries. He was taken into custody on other matters. Exactly what for and his connection to the victim remains unclear. It is an active line of investigation for us to compare that event for which he was taken into custody for as well as the murder investigation. Christina Puljack, 10 News.
