However, the match was marred by persistent booing from the crowd directed at Collingwood player Isaac Quaynor, which came shortly after Adelaide's Isaac Rankin received a four-match ban for a homophobic slur in a previous game against Collingwood.

The booing was widely condemned by Quaynor's coach, teammates, and opposition players, with AFL CEO Andrew Dillon urging fans to focus on the game. The Adelaide Crows released a statement encouraging respectful support from fans, while both teams expressed a desire to move past the recent controversies.

It came just three weeks after Isaac Rankin was handed a four-match ban for a highly offensive homophobic slur he used during Adelaide's last match against Collingwood. I did hear a little bit of it, but to be honest, I get so locked in in games I don't really pay much mind to anything else other than what's on the field. Quaynor wasn't the only Magpie to receive a hostile welcome. Dan Houston and Billy Frampton were also jeered. AFL CEO Andrew Dillon says fans should focus on the action. I'm not a fan of booing at any stage. We've got the best crowds in the world and I think we'll just go there and have a good time and watch some incredible athletes play an amazing game. The booing condemned by Quaynor's coach, teammates and opposition players. I'm disappointed. I'm not a booer. I raised my kids not to be booers. We want to respect everyone. He stood up tonight and did that really well. In a game that's that charged, I think lines do get crossed. Crows coach Matthew Nix refused to speak on the issue post-match. There's not one for me to comment on. But today the Crows released a statement. We want members and footy fans to be barracking and passionate. However, they should do so respectfully and any behaviour contrary to that is disappointing and not appropriate. Isaac Rankin wants to put this behind him and so do the Collingwood players.
