Political reporter Paris has the very latest on this. Things are heating up in Chicago's political world. Sylvia, let the races begin. You know, sources confirm early reports that West Side Congressman Danny Davis is going to announce he is not seeking another term in Congress after his current term expires. Davis is expected to make this announcement tomorrow and then to endorse a successor, State Representative LaShawn Ford. Ford has already filed paperwork to run in that district. Now Davis is 83 years old. He's coming up on 30 years in office following stints at City Council and the Cook County Board. Most recently, Davis has been instrumental in getting emergency funding for West Side communities affected by heavy flooding. Now LaShawn Ford is a longtime State Representative who has also recently run for mayor. He had some campaign legal troubles in the past in a case that was ultimately dropped by the U.S. Attorney's Office. So he has a clean slate and past candidates in that district have included City Treasurer Melissa Conyers-Irvin and Progressive Stalwart Keena Collins. But Sylvia, I'm told that Conyers-Irvin is interested in getting in this race again. There are a couple other declared candidates. Jason Friedman, a philanthropist and businessman who's been going around raising big money already, and Richard Boykin, a perennial candidate and a former Cook County Board of Commissioners member. When you consider this seat, Jan Schakowsky's retiring in Evanston. Robin Kelly, because she's gonna run for Senate. You've got that open Senate race and we are we are full of races here in Chicago. And you just mentioned a few that could possibly replace Davis, but surely there are more we haven't even heard about yet. It's not often that a seat like this comes open and a 30-year incumbent who always has the advantage is gone and it's just a free-for-all. So absolutely expect more people.
