A man from Long Beach has been taken into custody after police discovered he was in possession of a forged city of Long Beach Police detective shield and identification card. Officers approached Ariel Espinel and two others near Babylon Turnpike and Colonial Avenue in Freeport, where they found the fraudulent items during an interview. 

Following an investigation, authorities confirmed that Espinel was not a detective and the documents were not genuine. The 35-year-old now faces charges of impersonation and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Detectives say officers approached Ariel Espinel and two others near Babylon Turnpike and Colonial Avenue in Freeport last night. While officers interviewed Espinel, they found that he was in possession of a city of Long Beach Police detective shield and identification card. Following an investigation, officers determined those were fraudulent and he was not a detective. The 35 year old is charged with impersonation and criminal possession of a forged instrument.
