This Labor Day weekend is expected to break records when it comes to air travel. According to the Transportation Security Administration, nearly 17.4 million people are expected to fly between today and September 3rd. That beats the 17.03 million people who flew during the same period last year. TSA projects tomorrow will be the busiest one, with nearly three million people taking to the skies. Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration forecasts today and tomorrow will be busy when it comes to flights, with more than 100,000 expected to take off over the two days. So where exactly are people flying to this weekend? And what if you're interested in going on a last minute weekend getaway? Joining us now to help answer some of those questions is Kristy Hudson. She is an Expedia travel expert and is the head of global PR for hotels.com. Kristy, great to have you. It's Thursday, kind of last minute. So what would your tips be if someone wants to book a trip for this weekend? Yes, it is right down to the wire for Labor Day travel. Expedia says that searches are up 50% for popular destinations this Labor Day weekend. So if you're heading to some of the most popular places, like Las Vegas or New York, or even Aruba or Rome, you need to plan for long lines at the airports, Chicago and Orlando as well. People are really taking big trips, small trips to close out the summer. Can you still make reservations at this last minute without paying a fortune? You can. Some of my favorite places to go if you are a last minute planner, Vegas. Vegas has so many hotels in such a condensed area that you are always going to be able to find a deal. And $300 can go a long way there, at least for hotels, maybe not on the casino floor, but you can find even some of those four and five star hotels like the Cosmopolitan and the Aria still have some rates around 300, 350. So Los Angeles is another great bet. I was looking today and saw a few decent flight prices for LA and hotels are averaging around 230 a night there. All right, okay. And we know airports are going to be extremely busy this weekend. Any tips to make it easier for travelers? Yes, well, full flights always means long lines. If you are departing tomorrow on Friday, that is one of the busiest days for this holiday weekend, as is Monday for everyone coming back. And remember, it's not just the TSA lines, it's also traffic on the roads. Labor Day weekend is a big road trip weekend as well. So you need to leave early, arrive early. I would say leave your checked baggage at home for this one and bring a carry-on. It's going to save you a ton of time. And of course, in May this year, TSA started requiring that we all had our Real ID. So traveling even domestically, you need to have a passport or one of those enhanced driver's licenses that qualify for TSA. All right, some good tips. Christy Hudson, thank you. Enjoy Labor Day.
