Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has ruled out holding a referendum on whether Australia should become a republic while in office. It follows a meeting with King Charles at Scotland's Balmoral Castle as part of his fortnight-long world tour to meet heads of state.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Balmoral Castle for a private audience with King Charles, marking their fourth meeting. The visit was low-key, with Albanese accompanied by his fiancée, Jodie Hayden, while Queen Camilla attended another engagement. 

The meeting included discussions on Australia's relationship with the UK and global issues. Albanese also visited a local place of worship at the King's recommendation. The visit was notable as the first by an Australian Prime Minister to Balmoral since Paul Keating in 1993. Albanese stated he has no plans for a referendum on Australia becoming a republic.

He was accompanied by his fiancée Jodie Hayden, while Queen Camilla had another engagement. He's someone who's very engaged. He's interested in Australia, but he also, of course, is interested in world affairs. There are reports today crediting the King's personal diplomacy for helping shift the US President's view towards Ukraine in the war against Russia. The Prime Minister took King Charles' recommendation to visit the place where so many royal family members have come to worship. A small window into the life enjoyed by the King and his late mother, Queen Elizabeth, out of the spotlight. There's been very little fanfare for the Prime Minister's trip here to Balmoral. It's more a weekend stop-in rather than the pomp and ceremony you'd expect with meeting the King at a castle. But visiting the royal's beloved spot is also rare. The last Prime Minister to be at Balmoral was Paul Keating in 1993, when he told Queen Elizabeth that there were growing feelings in Australia for a republic. I have no plans for any referendums in the foreseeable future. Tomorrow is a change of pace when the Prime Minister heads to Liverpool for the UK's Labor Party conference. He criticised Scott Morrison for doing a similar thing with the Republicans. You are there as the head of our country, not as the head of the Australian Labor Party. His defence?
