One of Donald Trump's first acts upon returning to the White House in January was to dismantle USAID, cutting off some $63 billion in international development aid and humanitarian assistance. Six months later, the domino effects are becoming clear. The U.N.'s World Food Program previously relied on the U.S. for 70 percent of the funding for its Kenya operations. This is a crisis. It's a slow starvation. And this is where the world really needs to look at this situation carefully and raise debt funding for the refugee operations in Kenya. WFP rations at Kakuma have now been cut to just one-third of the U.N.'s recommended daily caloric intake. Aid workers warn the camp risks an impending famine in the coming months.
