U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington may have to choose between controlling Greenland and maintaining its NATO alliance. This follows his renewed push to acquire Greenland, which has been firmly rejected by both Denmark and Greenland's governments. 

Trump also emphasized his belief that his personal sense of right and wrong is the only limit on his authority to deploy U.S. military force globally. Despite describing himself as a peace president, he has authorized military strikes in several countries since the start of his second term, causing concern among NATO allies about the future of the alliance.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that picking between controlling Greenland and maintaining the NATO alliance could be a potential choice for Washington. Trump's comments come amid his renewed push to acquire the island in the Arctic Circle. Speaking in an interview with The New York Times, Trump said his personal sense of right and wrong provides the sole limitation on his authority to deploy U.S. military force globally. The U.S. leader also hinted that the NATO alliance would be toothless without the U.S. Both Denmark and Greenland's governments have rejected Trump's proposals to purchase or seize the island, but the escalating rhetoric has sent shockwaves and alarm to NATO allies who are now confronted with serious questions about the future of the alliance. Despite describing himself as a peace president and expressing interest in the Nobel Prize, Trump has authorized military strikes in Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, and Venezuela since beginning his second term in office last year.
