Israel has notified the United Nations of its decision to halve the number of humanitarian aid trucks permitted into Gaza, reducing the daily allowance to 300 trucks. This figure is significantly below what humanitarian officials consider the minimum required to meet the needs of the population. In addition to limiting aid convoys, Israel also plans to further restrict the entry of fuel and gas into the region. The United Nations reports that 190,000 metric tons of aid are currently staged and awaiting entry into Gaza, but the future of these deliveries remains uncertain due to the new restrictions.

In it, Israel tells the UN that it will implement sanctions related to the humanitarian agreement and cut in half the number of humanitarian aid trucks allowed into Gaza to 300 a day. That is far below what humanitarian officials say is the bare minimum that is necessary. In the letter, Israel also says that it will start to curtail the amount of fuel and gas allowed into the strip as well. We certainly want as much aid as possible to go in. And like I said, we're asking all of the parties to adhere to their agreements so that both the deceased hostages will be returned and that the other aspects of the implementation of the ceasefire, including regarding humanitarian aid, will be followed. And the border crossings being closed by Israel today, does that have to do with the letter or is that separate as far as you know? You would have to ask the Israelis. The UN says it has 190,000 metric tons of aid staged in the region waiting to go into Gaza. But now the future of how that aid will get into the strip and when is very much in doubt.
