Israel and Hamas are scheduled to meet in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, for talks mediated by Egyptian officials and joined by the U.S. Special Envoy. The discussions are centered on a possible ceasefire and the proposed exchange of all remaining hostages in Gaza for thousands of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons. 

The talks follow an announcement from Hamas expressing readiness to release all hostages in line with a U.S.-backed peace plan. The plan, supported by U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, includes the release of hostages, the disbandment of Hamas, and the establishment of a provisional oversight government. Further consultations are expected on other aspects of the plan.

Israel and Hamas are set to hold talks in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday as hopes continue to grow over a possible ceasefire. According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office, Israel's top negotiator Ron Dermer will lead the delegation. The talks will be mediated by Egyptian officials, who'll also be joined by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Whitkoff. Cairo says the talks will focus on the proposed exchange of all remaining hostages in Gaza for thousands of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons. It comes after Hamas announced on Friday that it was prepared to release all hostages in accordance with U.S. President Donald Trump's 21-point peace plan. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio hailed the move, saying it was the closest we've ever come to getting all the hostages released. The group, however, noted that other parts of Trump's peace plan require further consultation. Trump's plan features three main points for a postwar Gaza — the release of all hostages, the disbandment of Hamas, and the appointment of a provisional oversight government run by himself and former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair. The U.S. president welcomed Hamas' Friday announcement, saying in a post on social media that he believes the group is ready for lasting peace. He also directed Israel to immediately stop the bombing of the enclave to facilitate the release of hostages. The development comes just one day before Israel's war on Gaza enters its third year.
