As evidence mounts, human rights organisations are trying to confirm the number of protesters killed by the Islamic Republic's forces. They fear it could quickly rise further, because Iran's judiciary makes no secret of the fact it's willing to fast-track what it calls trials for people arrested during the protests. If things are delayed, it's even possible that the same action we take today, we'd be taking two months later, and it wouldn't have the same effect. So human rights organisations fear thousands of protesters now held in prisons and detention centres could be at imminent risk of execution. Forced confessions are a pattern of the Iranian regime, but they happen under coercion, and that coercion is often done with psychological and physical torture.
