As the success got bigger and bigger that you felt a certain danger in the air. What was the danger? Success. I think success is a double-edged sword. You want to shadowbox with it, but you don't want to embrace it or dance too close. Captain America is a fugitive from S.H.I.E.L.D. He wasn't just his acting, his directing was noticed too. He got his one and only Oscar for directing Ordinary People. But it's what he did offscreen that may be his most lasting legacy. The Sundance Institute and Film Festival in Utah changed the landscape of independent movies. He cared more about the craft than celebrity. And he cared more about the natural world and how we were changing it. Last we talked, though, he seemed to know it was time to pass the torch. You know, I can't do this forever. I've been doing it since I was 21. As you move into your 80s, you say, hey, that's enough. That's enough. His lifelong fans, though, might argue that there can never be enough of Robert Redford.
