High tuition fees and even bigger, broken promises. For Indian students at the International University (IU), the dream of studying in Germany has turned into a nightmare. "My life feels like hell," one of them told Euronews.

Several Indian students studying at a private university in Berlin have been ordered to leave Germany after authorities stopped recognizing the institution's accreditation. The affected students, including Deep Shambharka, report that their visas will not be extended, impacting around 300 Indian students in total.

The students say they were attracted by promises of a typical German student life and job prospects, but now face financial burdens and academic uncertainty. The university, IU, expressed regret and stated that the change in procedure by authorities was not communicated to them in advance.

Deep Shambharka's big dream seems to be shattered. Instead of graduating, he's facing deportation. The 25-year-old came to Berlin from India as a master's student. He has been studying business management at the private international university for over a year, but then he received a letter asking him to leave the country. I was really surprised to have it because in my case I didn't do anything wrong. I came here as a student. I came here to study. I came here for a better future. Studying, meeting friends, all that will soon be a thing of the past. The responsible authority suddenly no longer recognises the IU sufficiently. His visa and those of around 300 other Indian students will not be extended, Deep tells us. Basically this thing started this year from the month of March. They started deporting students because they considered the course that IU offers is a distance learning course. I think this was because the university didn't launch or offer their courses or didn't have the proper accreditation of the courses which they were supposed to have. The argument, IU is not sufficiently equipped for face-to-face teaching. Nevertheless, until recently, IU attracted students with videos abroad. It advertises a typical German student life and the prospect of jobs in Europe. Instead, Deep is now stuck with a student loan of 20,000 euros that he contracted in India. IU would not refund the money, despite the fact that Deep's past exams seem to be worthless, as other universities would not recognise them, Deep tells Euronews. I'm kind of surprised and sad about it, but unfortunately things don't work out how I wanted it and it's kind of tough to face all the situation mentally and physically. There are a lot of private universities here in Berlin and IU is the only one that is having problems with the visa right now and the students are suffering a lot because of it. Deep has lodged an appeal against his deportation, but he has little hope. IU said it regretted that students were asked to leave the country.
