But behind the walls of the Ankatsotu campus, a grim reality awaits. Overcrowded dorms and run-down buildings, with almost no running water, and daily power cuts. This fuse just caught fire. It's unlivable. It's just for survival. It's nothing like the campuses you would find abroad. Anger at these squalid living conditions has been a major driver in ongoing anti-government protests that are gripping the country. Since late September, the capital has seen near-daily and often deadly demonstrations, with young protesters denouncing widespread poverty and corruption, and calling on the president to step down. Faced with mounting popular pressure, Andrzej Radziołł sacked his entire government last week. But his decision to later appoint an army general as prime minister did little to quell the unrest. It's not a new prime minister we want, it's a change in the system. Is the prime minister going to come down here and take care of us? No. What can he do? What is he going to change? A meeting on Wednesday between the president and civil society actors was snubbed by the Gen Z Mada movement. The group, which has been spearheading the protests, denounced a sham dialogue and issued calls for a general strike on Thursday.
