Hurricane Imelda has strengthened to a Category 2 hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center. A hurricane warning remains in effect for Bermuda, where heavy rainfall, gusty winds and large waves are expected today and tomorrow.

The storm's strongest winds are approaching Bermuda, with tropical storm force winds and hurricane force gusts expected in the region. Thunderstorm activity is intensifying near the storm's center, helping to maintain its strength as it moves westward, propelled by the jet stream.

Forecasts indicate that Bermuda could experience wind gusts between 40 and 50 miles per hour, with potentially stronger gusts as the storm passes. However, Imelda is expected to accelerate eastward, meaning the most severe conditions should be brief, lasting no more than a couple of hours. Meanwhile, Hurricane Humberto has weakened and is no longer a significant threat.

Definitely with some of the stronger thunderstorm activity in there. Now we're starting to see some of those storms here right in the middle of it. Perhaps wrap around it more effectively. So while we're seeing some of the warming in the cloud tops occur on the edge right in the middle, some of those thunderstorms are curling up right around that center of circulation that could indeed mean. It's at least preserving its intensity as it moves on westbound. Thanks to the jet stream pushing it along. And here we go. Let's time it out and show you that 910 o'clock tonight Eastern time. We could see some pretty strong wind gusts across the Bermuda region, maybe 40 to 50 mph this evening, and we could see wind gusts stronger than that on the backside of this thing with a north wind as it moves away. Thankfully, pretty quickly 10 and Alex. I think that's one saving grace here that this is going to be accelerating eastbound and the worst conditions won't last more than an hour or two.
