IDF forces are positioned on the city's outskirts, and Israel's defense minister has authorized the call-up of 60,000 reservists, as well as the extension of current service terms. This military escalation follows Hamas's approval of a ceasefire deal, which Israel is still reviewing. The situation has led to further displacement of Gaza's residents, many of whom are seeking refuge in increasingly crowded areas. The expansion of military operations and the reservist call-up have faced criticism from various groups within Israel, including the ultra-Orthodox community, families of hostages, and former military officials.

The Israeli military update came late on Wednesday. We are not waiting. We have begun the preliminary operations in the first stages of the attack on Gaza City. IDF forces are already holding the outskirts of Gaza City. In light of the new assault, Israel's defence minister has also approved military plans to call up 60,000 reservists and extend the service of those currently serving. This despite Hamas approving a ceasefire deal on Monday, while Israel continues to study it. The news is yet another blow to the people of Gaza. Everyone was saying that there will be a truce. We also thought that. But waking up to the news that 50,000 soldiers are entering the Gaza Strip, this is very catastrophic news. I'm telling you, the point of these 50,000 soldiers is to occupy Gaza and destroy the Palestinian people, to completely destroy the Gaza Strip and force the people's displacement. Israel says it's expanding into Gaza City to root out Hamas, where it's allegedly regrouping. The city is also one of the last places of refuge, where hundreds of thousands are sheltering. Some Gazans have begun to flee, even if they have no safe place to go. Reservists have already been displaced multiple times and forced into ever more densely packed areas. Israeli military officials say the reservists will be called up in the coming month, nearly doubling the number of active reservists to 120,000. It comes as a growing campaign of exhausted reservists accuse the government of perpetuating the war for political reasons. The call-up is also posed by Israel's ultra-Orthodox Jewish community, as well as the families of the hostages and former army and intelligence chiefs.
