One family sought shelter from the weather in this former wedding hall, a decision that proved deadly. There was a tent here sheltering the Hamouda family, our neighbors. Suddenly a wall fell on them. We rushed to rescue them, but unfortunately the elderly man we pulled out was dead, along with the two children. The 16-year-old girl was still trapped under the fallen wall and we couldn't pull her out. With more than 80% of buildings in the territory razed by Israeli bombardments, people continue to find shelter where they can, often living in temporary encampments, leaving them vulnerable to the elements. Aid groups warn that not enough shelter aid is reaching the enclave, and some accuse Israel of blocking assistance. Meanwhile, recent poor weather, including several storms, have made many existing tents uninhabitable. Me and our neighbors are suffering. Our clothes are soaked, the bedding is soaked, the flowers are soaked. This is the fourth storm and heavy rain we faced. We have no shelter, nothing at all. As you can see, we're facing these strong winds. We were displaced from our home because of the winter, and since then I've found no place to shelter with my children except this small area. Children remain particularly vulnerable to these living conditions. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, a one-year-old boy died of hypothermia overnight on Tuesday.
