After taking a right turn away from the U.S. coast, thanks to the effect of Hurricane Humberto, Imelda is on a collision course with Bermuda.

Local reports indicate that at least five vacant homes have collapsed in Buxton due to impacts from both hurricanes, though no injuries have been reported. The region is experiencing large waves, dangerous rip currents, and bands of heavy rain, with visibility reduced at times.

Bermuda is expected to face category two hurricane impacts, but the island is well-prepared, with buildings constructed to withstand such storms. Scattered power outages are anticipated, but rainfall is expected to be limited due to the storm's fast movement. Meanwhile, Hurricane Umberto continues to affect the area with sustained winds of 80 mph and is forecast to bring strong winds to northwestern parts of the British Isles.

Hurricane Imelda barrels toward Bermuda

Local media report at least five vacant homes collapsed in Buxton this afternoon amid impacts from hurricanes Umberto and Imelda. No injuries were reported, but both storms continue to generate really massive waves and dangerous rip currents. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore says these are the latest homes claimed by the ocean this month. Another collapsed just two weeks ago. We want to take you to Cape Fear, North Carolina. Now this is courtesy of explore.org and frying pan tower and still breezy offshore there. Yeah, it is still. That's a stiff wind for sure. Right now and we're in the low 70s. Temperatures are going to be keeping us again a little bit more in the way of. Again, temperate here for the coast, so it's not going to get too hot here with that chilly breeze from the Northeast, but the ocean water keeps that moderated. Overall, when we look at the satellite estimates of where the rain is falling, almost as if there was a radar network all the way out over the ocean, it's kind of a searching game here to find Bermuda. And we had a heavy band of rain when we started with our live coverage around 4 o'clock today, this band of heavy rain was really bringing some lower visibilities to Bermuda and we're getting back into it now. Another band of rain associated with the circulation of Umberto pivoting through, but that bigger impacts will come tomorrow night. Unfortunately, as it melds, making a hard right turn, it's going to be making a push right into the area of Bermuda. So on the hurricane timing calendar, we've had nine named storms, typically in the upper 70s. We've had nine named storms. Typically our 9th would form September 16th, so Imelda formed about 10 days later than average for the ninth named storm. Our fourth hurricane was about two weeks later than average days. The 30th and Imelda became a hurricane two weeks behind schedule for the average date for the fourth hurricane. We're ahead of schedule on the other hand for the number of major hurricanes. This early in the season, typically a number three doesn't occur until the end of October, and that is the number that we usually see for a typical year three to four majors. Here we have Imelda. Imelda is still churning. It's offshore. It's begun the sweeping right turn, and it's going to continue to move into Bermuda. There's Bermuda and again we have max sustained winds of 85 mph. So for the first time today, Imelda is stronger than Umberto. Imelda will continue to move east northeast. We have a category two impacts coming to Bermuda now. Bermuda has an Accuweather real impact scale rating for hurricanes of one for this storm. Most of the storm is going to Most other areas would have it too. Probably with gusts of 80 to 100 mph, but Bermuda knows how to deal with hurricanes. They build out of stone. They'll have some scattered power outages. Again, they're well prepared for this, and the rain is not going to be that big of a deal an inch or two because it'll be a fast moving storm and out to sea and by the way Umberto is still max sustained winds of 80 mph. This one is going to bring wind and gusts of 80 to 100 mph to northwestern parts of the British Isles late this week into the weekend.
