Upon returning to their convent, they found their personal belongings missing and reported that several tens of thousands of euros were unaccounted for. Their custodian, a provost from Reikersberg Abbey, maintains that the sisters are unable to live independently, but the nuns disagree, stating they are in good health and can care for themselves with the help of employees and volunteers.

The nuns have attracted widespread attention on social media, gaining tens of thousands of followers as they document their daily lives at the convent. Despite lacking basic utilities initially, they have received support from the local community and former students. While canon law suggests the sisters should return to the retirement home, the nuns intend to remain in their convent, expressing gratitude for being able to return and resume their duties.

Initially, they had neither water nor electricity, and the old stairlift they used had been removed. The provost, Markus Grasel, made a written statement. No investments are being made in the convent. The sisters have a good place at the nursing home, where they should be. There, they can be cared for. The sisters aren't convinced, nor are a growing number of supporters from the congregation of Elsbitten near Salzburg. A former student from the convent school brings gifts. The sisters are known among younger people, too. According to canon law, they would have to obey and return to the nursing home, explains theologian Daniel Thiebe, even if in years past they would have stayed. The majority of their fellow sisters stayed in the convent in their old age, received care there, and passed away in the convent. But nowadays, convents often lack younger members who can provide care. Sisters Rita, Bernadette and Regina want to look after themselves, with the help of volunteers. Thanks be to God that we can be back here, and we'll be staying until the end of our lives. And then convent duties come calling, and Sister Rita wastes no time returning to work.
