The Australian Prime Minister has requested the creation of a special honours list to recognize first responders, medical workers, and civilians who acted bravely during the Bondi terrorist attack. The awards are expected to be announced next year, following nominations and recommendations for bravery or meritorious service.

This announcement comes as authorities increase police patrols in Sydney and the government faces mounting calls for a Royal Commission into anti-Semitism. The Prime Minister has also extended an invitation to the Israeli President to visit Australia, amid ongoing diplomatic tensions and domestic debate over political unity.

They're the stories of courage that came out of immense tragedy. The attack did show us the worst of humanity, hatred, anti-semitism, violence. It also showed us the best of humanity, extraordinary acts of bravery and courage, acts of kindness. The Prime Minister today announced the actions of first responders, medical workers and everyday heroes will be up for official recognition. Today I've written to the Governor-General requesting the creation of a special honours list in response to this horrific terrorist attack. The award's set to be announced next year. This would recognise those individuals nominated and recommended for a bravery or a meritorious award in response to the Bondi terrorist attack. The announcement comes amid calls to calm escalating tensions. 27-year-old Beacon Hill man Nathan Balesti bailed from Manly local court yesterday accused of an online post threatening to kidnap the Prime Minister. The Director-General of Asia has made this very clear publicly that we need to lower the temperature of political debate. As he looks to quell tensions at home, the Prime Minister is also looking overseas, extending an invitation to the Israeli President to visit Australia early next year. Isaac Herzog posting on social media that the request had been accepted. A very constructive discussion as it always has been with President Herzog. The invitation comes after Anthony Albanese cobbed intense criticism from Israel with Benjamin Netanyahu laying blame for the tragedy at Mr Albanese's feet. The two leaders haven't spoken in the days since. I don't think this is a time for any partisan politics. But those calls for unity seem unlikely, especially back home as the Government continues to fend off calls for a Royal Commission. Anti-Semitism in our country is a disease that must be addressed and it must be addressed in every factor and across every vector. There is no excuse now not to have a Royal Commission. Ramped up police patrols, meanwhile, are continuing as officers zero in on Bondi Beach alongside places of worship across Sydney, charging 18 people so far. A day alone we have probably 500 police out there doing proactive patrols in itself. We're targeting everything from anti-social behaviour, any hate crime.
