Major cities in the Northeast could break record highs on July 25, but the heat is also coming with a risk of severe storms.

A heat dome is expanding across the Northeast United States, causing temperatures to approach or tie record highs in several cities, including Philadelphia. The AccuWeather forecast predicts Philadelphia will reach 97 degrees, matching a record set in 2016, while other areas in the region will also experience sweltering conditions.

Alongside the heat, widespread storms are expected, with risks of large hail, damaging winds, and flooding, particularly in cities like Boston. Relief is anticipated as a dip in the jet stream is forecast to bring cooler and less humid air to the region, though stormy conditions may persist in some areas.

So here's overall what we are tracking this heat dome is working its way across Kentucky and it is not only intensifying, but as you can see here, it is expanding in scope and this is going to encompass more and more of the Northeast, including portions of New England. But in addition to the heat, we're also tracking storms, widespread shower storms and severe weather here across parts of the Northeast. So large hail, damaging winds, flooding, rainfall will definitely be in the forecast for tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow evening. Low in for tornadoes, but it's a non zero threat. So heads up for that. The overall potential for severe weather will move in late Friday afternoon into Friday evening. The storms will be moving from west to east. Now we're talking about record breaking temperatures. Here it is right here. All these cities will be within range of tying, if not setting record high. So Philly, number to beat 97 degrees set back in 2016. Our AccuWeather forecast for tomorrow, 97. So it looks like we will tie a nine year old temperature record in Philly here as we head throughout tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow evening. So across the rest of the region, we'll see some storm cooled seventies and eighties to the north, but we'll see sweltering conditions to the south. I mean, look at this difference between Pittsburgh and Richmond. Pittsburgh, 88 degrees, some showers and storms. Richmond, 97. The storms move in later in the evening, which is why the daytime heating is going to peak there across parts of the mid Atlantic coastline, and it's gonna be hot. AccuWeather real field temperatures will climb into that 105, 110 range here for Friday afternoon. But the best news of all, we're gonna see some big changes moving in as we head into late next week. Take a look at this. A big dip in the jet stream is gonna be pulling in some cooler, quote unquote cooler, but less humid conditions. So it's gonna end up happening is that we're gonna see lower humidity values, which is gonna make it feel a lot more comfortable here across this region. So dry air for Saturday, more storms moving in, so it's gonna be dry to the north, stormy in the middle and then sweltering off to the south.
