The storms caused walls to collapse onto tents, resulting in the deaths of a teenage girl, two women, and an elderly man, with civil defense teams recovering their bodies.

Over 7,000 makeshift shelters have been destroyed within two days, according to government reports. The ongoing conflict and lack of adequate shelter have left many residents vulnerable, with relief promised in the October ceasefire still not reaching those most in need.

Winter storms are battering Gaza. Tents and makeshift shelters offer little protection from the wind and drain, leaving families exposed to icy temperatures day and night. These walls collapsed into tents, killing a teenage girl, two women, and an elderly man. Civil defense teams recovered their bodies. Suddenly at night, strong winds led to the collapse of this wall. It fell on my relatives. Their tent was buried by the rubble. I kept shouting and trying to pull them out, but we failed until the civil defense arrived and recovered them. In this city, survival is measured by how long a shelter can withstand the weather. Flooded streets, wrecked tents, and muddy blankets are part of daily life in Gaza. Yasmin spends hours sewing torn sheets, trying to keep a roof over her head. Each stitch is a lifeline for her family. At night, the winds were very, very strong. The tent collapsed on top of us. We have no shelter or anything. Our situation is dire. The government says more than 7,000 makeshift shelters were destroyed in two days. The storms reveal more than the extent of the destruction caused by Israel's war. They expose the human coast of displacement. And with each collapse comes loss, trauma, and yet another battle to stay alive. Gaza is enduring some of its harshest conditions yet not only because of the weather, but because people have no proper shelter.
