Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the peace process requires both the return of hostages and the demilitarization of Gaza, including the disarmament of Hamas and the prevention of weapons smuggling. The United States, credited by Israeli and other leaders for facilitating the peace plan, remains involved, though questions persist about the long-term enforcement and the future governance of Gaza.

But we do begin with the Middle East and the push for a lasting peace in Gaza. Hamas today released the remains of four more deceased hostages. The Red Cross, and that's in addition to the four bodies returned on Monday. Now there are still 20 bodies left that need to be brought back to Israel. As part of the deal, the Israeli military also agreed to a partial withdrawal from Gaza, and Israel would pull back further in later phases if that peace plan remains intact. CVS Mornings co-host Tony DeCopo sat down with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and asked about what it will take for this war to be officially over. That exclusive interview took place in a hospital tending to freed hostages. Mr Trump says the war is over, but clearly the war is not over. The IDF is deployed to sections of Gaza still and Hamas is still on the streets of Gaza. How can you say the war is over? Well, we agreed to give to give peace a chance. We agreed that we should. The conditions in his 20 plan, 20 point plan are very clear. It's not only that we get the hostages out without getting our military out, but that we would subsequently have both demilitarization and disarmament. They're not the same thing. First, Hamas has to give up its arms. And second, you want to make sure that there are no weapons factories inside Gaza. There's no smuggling of weapons into Gaza. That's demilitarization. We agreed that that's part of the plan and we want we also agreed, OK, let's get the first part done and now let's give a chance to do the second part peacefully, which is my hope. But if not, I think I heard the president speak tonight. He said, listen, they better do it or you know, how can I can I speak for him? He said all all hell breaks loose. OK, well, I hope it doesn't. I hope we can do this peacefully and we're certainly ready to do so. The senior White House and political correspondent Ed O'Keefe joins us now. Ed, very good to see you here. Netanyahu and other world leaders have credited President Trump for securing this peace plan, bringing everyone to the table there. How involved will the US be going forward? It's a big question we're trying to answer, Nancy. We've been asking and, you know, the president today on his social media site, praising the fact that the 20 living hostages are back and as good as can be expected, but saying the job is not done. The dead have not been returned, as promised, and phase two begins right now. What exactly is phase two? Beyond what was discussed today, the possibility of Hamas eventually disarming, handing over its weapons. And then you heard the president there say if they don't, then they might be taken by force. And then the prime minister backing him up, saying he agrees with that. It's a sign that there's still great skepticism and concern that this could fall apart at a moment's notice if the violence flares up again or if they hit some kind of a stalemate. So there's questions about who exactly on the US side is going to remain actively engaged in moving this forward at a time when the president has so many other domestic and foreign policy issues to deal with. He was meeting with the president of Argentina today. He's got the leader of Ukraine coming on Friday. He's getting ready for a big trip to Asia to meet with China's president after threatening again today to upend the US China trade relationship. So how do you keep a president focused on that big accomplishment, undeniable accomplishment in recent days, while also dealing with all those other issues remains to be seen? Yeah, certainly a lot on his plate. But also, Ed, coming back from Egypt, President Trump was asked about a possible two-state solution. What did he say about that? He remained vague. He said, look, it doesn't matter to me if it's a one-state or a two-state solution. It's all going to get worked out. In other words, he's staying out of those nitty gritty details right now, understanding that the dynamics of this are such that there's a lot of other things that have to be accomplished before you get to that conversation. Remember, there was a 20-point comprehensive plan released by the president about three weeks ago now. And at the time, you look at that list, you think a lot of these things could take weeks, months, if not years, to negotiate individually, let alone as one big package. And one of the issues is the future of Gaza, of the West Bank, as to what it is, who controls it. All of that yet to be determined. In part, there's questions about who leads Gaza as it gets rebuilt. Is it this board of peace that the president is supposed to co-chair with the former British prime minister, Tony Blair, for example, or is it someone else? Is it some representative of the Palestinian Authority of Hamas? All of those issues yet to be sorted out. Part of the reason why the president's staying away from details like whether or not ultimately he wants to see two states. Nancy. Ed O'Keefe there at the White House.
