Welcome back, a tradition that just keeps on aiming for new heights. Once again today, fundraisers dedicated to helping the Twin Cities Salvation Army and the countless lives this organization impacts are repelling over the ground. The Down for the Challenge fundraiser continues to help people stay in their homes, stabilize their lives, and improve our community. Joining us now is a Hall of Famer and longtime Salvation Army supporter, Chris Carter, truly one of the biggest cheerleaders for not only this specific fundraiser but the overall Salvation Army. So good to see you again. Well, good to be back. You brought the Florida weather, as we mentioned. Yes, yes, I'm responsible. Yes, I live in Florida. I brought the weather with me. Yeah, but talk about, you know, this fundraiser and just the impact of this, because this is such an operation, you know, obviously very visual and about 100 people today taking part, but VIPs yesterday, but just the impact of where these dollars are going. Yeah, so please join us, you know, today from noon till probably six. We'll be out there, also going to Vikings practice in between, but we've grown the event Down for the Challenge, and if you want, if you can't get out, go to downforthechallenge.com. You can make a contribution, but over the last four years, the event's grown so quickly, and we've been able to raise over two million dollars to fight homelessness here in the Twin Cities area. So being able to do that over four years, we want to continue to grow it. We have a new sponsor now that's created an apparatus that now we can repel handicapped people. They have the option to be able to join us, and without generous sponsors like that, that's not going to be made available. So we're just continuing to trying to grow it to bring awareness, and more importantly, the Salvation Army. I was a Salvation Army kid, and I grew up getting clothes, being fed, getting spiritual counseling from them in Southwest Ohio. So now, since the world thinks I'm somebody, I want them to know what Salvation Army did for me and my family when I really wasn't anybody. Yeah, and the impact of your contribution is so much, but there's so many people out there that this could really help. Right here in Minnesota, 63,000 Minnesotans currently behind, you know, having trouble paying their rent, 71% of them in low-income households. So those are numbers, but you can speak to the personal side of this. When you're living this need and having an organization, they're helping how a couple dollars can go a long way. My mom had seven kids before the age of 25, and we were just one mistake away from being homeless, and then being in a situation like this and what they did to support me and my family to be able to give us the ability to have confidence that we had a future. You know, I want to create that because the state of Minnesota has done that for me personally. Came here, got my life turned around. The Vikings and all the sport, their sponsors have given to me so that I could reach the better version of myself. That's what I want to be able to offer back here in the Twin Cities and Salvation Army. They are my partner because they were there at the beginning, and that's why we have such a great relationship. Yeah, some people can think about that as they, you know, maybe you don't repel, but maybe you're donating and still have those opportunities. Got about a minute left to talk Vikings. Yes. So obviously, this is very close to the Vikings training camp happening today, open to the public for the first time today, although it is already sold out, but just talk to me about the team, a lot of pressure, people looking at J.J. McCarthy, just your thoughts. Yeah, I spoke to the team yesterday, and I actually spoke to J.J., and I told him, listen, I love the Vikings so much. As an Ohio State guy, I'm willing to cheer for you. All right, and you know, a lot of the news will be about him, but it's his time. Yeah, you get drafted, you go to a big school like he went to, you have success, win a national championship, you get drafted by the Vikings, your rookie year doesn't go how you want it, but the supporting cast, KO is the head coach, their coordinator, the other talented players, the offensive lineman that they've added to build, give him added protection, and the defensive line through free agency we added, this is a very good Vikings team. I'm so excited to watch them play, and J.J.'s going to be a star for the Vikings. Oh, we're so excited, but from a player perspective, when you're looking at this forecast, it's going to feel like 96. I mean, from Florida, you're used to that, but padding up in that sort of heat. Yeah, well, they're not on pads till Monday, so it's still shorts, but that's fine, but it's still going to be hot, but I understand you're a mother, you got your little gits, they're playing little flag football and everything, but this is how you build the stamina for that long NFL season and a playoff run. If we want to be having a parade down First Avenue, all right, in February, we got to have the dog days of summer, and that's what the guys will be dealing with today, but they got the unique training staff, they provide everything for these guys, but it's the ugly part of developing a football team.
