Greenlandic leaders and residents emphasized their desire to remain independent, stating they do not wish to be Americans or Danes, but Greenlanders.

Many Greenlanders expressed discomfort with the increased attention from the U.S., asserting that Greenland is not for sale and does not wish to be colonized again. Residents in Nuuk, the capital, reiterated their commitment to peace and independence, with slogans such as 'Enough is enough' and 'We are not for sale.'

Greenland is 'greatest' without the U.S

Donald Trump is raising the stakes on Greenland. We are going to do something on Greenland, whether they like it or not, because if we don't do it, Russia or China will take over Greenland, and we're not going to have Russia or China as a neighbor. I would like to make a deal, you know, the easy way, but if we don't do it the easy way, we're going to do it the hard way. The leaders of Greenland's five political parties responded with a joint statement, saying, We would like to emphasize once again our desire for the U.S.'s disdain for our country to end. We do not want to be Americans. We do not want to be Danes. We want to be Greenlanders. Even before the military threats, Trump was coming on too strong for many Greenlanders. Greenland had been like invisible before Trump, and with Trump it's visible. In the beginning it's very good, but now it's a little bit too much. So he pushed the bottom too hard. He keeps saying that he needs to make Greenland better, but we are the most greatest without you actually. We're doing fine. We're all around. We are in peace. The sentiment doesn't just concern the U.S., but Denmark as well. We have been a colony in so many years. We are not ready to be a colony and colonized again. But to walk with another country does not mean we will be part of it. Greenlanders even have their own version of Trump's red hat. It reads... Enough is enough. We want peace. We don't want Greenland to be for sale. On the streets of Greenland's capital Nuuk, it's pretty clear. We are not for sale. Ever. Never, ever been. Never will be.
