Governor Evers is hoping to convince the Republican control legislature to find bipartisan support for 1.3 billion in new funding to lower property taxes after year end tax bills hit homeowners. Under this proposal, we can make sure the average homeowner will not see the proper a property tax increase period. But how we got here seems deeply partisan. Republicans blame Evers veto pen for increasing state school funding per student for centuries to come. I looked at my own property tax bill 25% higher than it was last year because of Governor Evers three or four hundred year veto. Evers disagrees, pointing to the record number of local school referendums over the years for driving up property taxes across the state because of a decade of Republicans consistently failing to meaningfully invest in our kids and K through 12 schools that has consequences. Folks, Evers says the money is there to find a compromise with the state's estimated $4 billion budget surplus, and he's open to suggestions on how to do it. We have the resources available. We have to make sure that they're used in appropriate ways. There is one thing Governor Evers says he will not be doing this year. He says he has no plans to endorse one of the many Democrats running to replace him in the August primary in Madison, Charles Benson, TMJ four News.
