Tonight, one of the survivors is speaking out, worried about what would happen if Bellamy is released and fighting to keep him locked up. She spoke with News 5's Bob Jones. He's a serial rapist. He should never get out. This 71-year-old sexual assault survivor named Dee wanted us to show her face and use her first name, hoping to help other survivors while also sending a message. She's urging the Ohio Parole Board to keep her attacker, serial rapist David Bellamy, behind bars. He's up for parole next month, which Dee says makes her feel re-traumatized. You have to go through it over and over again, even after you're contacted. Then you're nervous about whether he's going to get out. What would you do? Do you want him following you? Bellamy was called the Goodyear Heights Rapist since many of the attacks happened in that neighborhood, more than a dozen victims between 1985 and 1995. In 1993, Bellamy wore a mask and broke into Dee's East Akron home, threw a window, and sexually assaulted her at knife point. He woke me up around 2, 2.30 with a knife to my throat. And he told me not to scream, but that he gagged me anyhow. And he proceeded to rape me. David Bellamy was one of the worst serial rapists that our community has ever encountered. Former Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh says the rapes terrified the Goodyear Heights area. For more than 10 years, people in the community were frightened. People knew that there was a serial rapist out there. He was breaking into women's homes, sexually assaulting them. In 1996, Bellamy was convicted and sentenced to 20 to 50 years in prison. Sherri wrote a letter to the parole board 10 years ago when Bellamy was last up for parole. It was denied. Dee writes letters every time the parole board considers releasing him, and she plans to do it again this time around. He's a serial rapist. He should never get out. All I know is that people in Akron deserve to know what happened. And if he gets out, if he doesn't get out, we can all celebrate. Bellamy's parole board hearing is scheduled for September, but an exact date has not been set.
