Lawyers representing the men say their deportation was illegal. News of their expulsion to Ghana emerged last week, sparking a lawsuit by U.S. lawyers. We believe that the plaintiffs' deportations to Ghana did not comply with principles of due process. These people were not told where they were going to be taken. They were just awoken in the middle of the night inside their cells in ICE detention centers across the U.S. and taken to a single ICE detention center and then put on a plane without being told where they were being taken. Nigeria's government said it was not briefed about its nationals being sent to Ghana and that previously it had received Nigerians deported directly from the U.S.
