The attack has drawn widespread condemnation, with international organizations highlighting the dangers faced by journalists in Gaza. Nearly 200 reporters have been killed since October 2023, making it the deadliest conflict for journalists ever recorded, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Israel has denied deliberately targeting journalists and has previously announced investigations into such incidents.

Documenting what's happening on the ground in Gaza is becoming increasingly difficult. Five more journalists were killed in an Israeli strike on a hospital in southern Gaza on Monday. Hossam al-Masri was among them. This was the last image he filmed. His camera was recovered alongside his body. This was Hossam's role in the media, to deliver the truth to the outlets. The camera is recording whether for or against us. The camera recorded whether there were Palestinian gunmen or Israeli occupation forces. Hossam was just documenting with his camera. Israel said six of the 20 people killed were militants and claimed it was targeting a Hamas camera in the strikes. It has not provided any evidence for the claim, which Hamas rejected. The attack has been widely condemned. Targeting journalists is forbidden, but also targeting hospitals is forbidden. The Israeli authorities have in the past announced investigations in such killings. It's of course the responsibility of Israel as the occupying power to investigate. But these investigations need to yield results. Israel denies targeting journalists in Gaza. Nearly 200 have been killed since October 2023. The Committee to Protect Journalists says it is the deadliest conflict for reporters ever documented.
