In case he doesn't, the Leader of the Government in the lower house has written to Ward and his lawyers explaining in light of his convictions the House will, next Tuesday, consider whether your continued membership requires it to act to protect the high standing of the Parliament, giving him until 9 a.m. that day to explain why he should not be expelled. As constitutional law expert Professor Anne Toomey explains, neither expulsion nor suspension can be used in New South Wales for the purpose of punishment. Instead it's about protecting the Parliament and the public's trust in it.
