The operation is part of an investigation into alleged campaign finance violations, specifically probing whether the party used illegal loans to finance campaigns between 2020 and 2024. 

The investigation also covers possible money laundering and the use of forged documents during the 2022 presidential and 2024 European election campaigns. National Rally president Jordan Bardella described the raid as a harassment campaign, stating that armed forces seized emails, documents, and accounting data. The party, which has recently become France's largest single parliamentary group, has faced previous legal issues, including the conviction of co-founder Marine Le Pen and other officials for embezzling EU funds.
