Welcome back, it's 1224, the Broadway and Chicago Free Summer Concert is happening tonight at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. 11 upcoming Broadway shows and one current show are participating in the event and that includes The Sound of Music and The Outsiders and joining me today is a cast member from each, Jill Christine Wiley with The Sound of Music and Josh Strobel with The Outsiders. Did you guys know each other before you came in? You know, it's funny, we've actually been doing a few advanced press gigs here and there and we've met previously. Yes, in Schenectady, New York. Oh, good old Schenectady, no better place to meet somebody. All great relationships start there, you know. I am so excited to have you guys here because there's nothing like summertime shy and when I think of special summertime activities, we just talked about the dinner in Blanc, but the Broadway and Chicago series at the Pritzker Pavilion is magical. Tell everybody what they can expect. There are gonna be many shows performing this evening so you're in for a real treat. Little snippets here and there of a variety of all of the arts that will be immersing the season ahead here in Chicago and one specific shout out I have to mention is I'm really looking forward to performing with some local musical theater students from the Illinois Musical Theater Awards. So they will be joining me on stage this evening and I believe you also have a special date. Tell us about yours. Yes, there's gonna be a high school, local high school performing with us as well and that's always the most exciting thing and most rewarding thing to to perform with the next generation of performers. Well, you know because you've both been there, you know what it means to these students, right? Yes. I mean think about where you are now. Let me ask you first. I know this was obviously something you had a dream of doing and here you are. What can you say to the people of Chicago who are gonna come out tonight because they're gonna see you on stage and we just assumed this is what you do. It's no big deal but what's this like for you? Yeah, I mean I I think I'd say that that dream is achievable, you know. It's and it's not it's not that far out, you know. I started and I started a little late in musical theater but found my bearings and studied with with an incredible, incredible teachers and and now here we are. What are you gonna be performing tonight in front of that crowd as you look out? You are going to be getting a little treat of Do Re Mi. Oh, good. Maybe some soul fish in there as well. Encouraging the audience to learn and maybe sing along if they feel inspired. What's your favorite number in the show? You know, it's it is my favorite things. Okay. Oh, of course. And actually in this production there will be some differences from what people might remember from the film, obviously Iconic Rodgers and Hammerstein music. Yes. My favorite things is actually sung between the mother Abbas and Maria. Very nice. How about you for your show? Well, so I actually have the luxury of covering both of the lead the lead roles in the musical and Pony Boy Curtis and Johnny Cade and so I'd say my favorite song to sing would be Stay Gold which is kind of like the overarching theme of our entire show and as Pony Boy, you'll be hearing Great Expectations tonight which is also an incredible song to sing and also very challenging too. So I'm excited for it. Wow. And I didn't get to get your answer but what is it like when you are sitting standing on that stage and looking at all those people who are admiring your work? It's the gift that keeps on giving. I think it's just an opportunity to welcome them into storytelling and truth telling for the next two and a half hours. Great escape. And just kind of being in the present and there is nothing like live theater. So it's just such a gift to get to share with them. Well, I highly recommend you guys head out. There's all the information on your screen. I have done this in years past and I'm here to tell you I always like to give a good scoop. Make sure you get there as early as you can because of all the Pritzker Pavilion performances in the summer, this Broadway in Chicago, if it's not the most popular, is one of the most popular. So a lot of people will be coming out to enjoy. Don't let that prevent you from going. Just be prepared to have a great time and to listen to these beautiful voices. Enjoy our gorgeous city.
