The search for Porepunkah man Dezi Freeman continues into its second week, police today releasing footage of the moment he allegedly shot and killed two officers.

Victoria Police are continuing their search for Desi Freeman, who is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Senior Constable Vadimdevart Hotar and Detective Leading Senior Constable Neil Thompson. The officers were executing a warrant for historic sexual offences when the incident occurred at a property in Porepunkah, where Freeman was residing with his family. 

The release of video footage taken by a member of Freeman's family has added to the distress of the officers' families and colleagues. Police have offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Freeman's capture and are urging the public to avoid the area due to ongoing safety concerns. The search remains active, and local businesses are experiencing difficulties as the police operation continues.

They visited the forward command post near Porpanka. It was an opportunity for them to really understand the enormity of the task we've got at hand. Made even more emotional after the publication of images taken from a video of their son's final moments, as well as those of his colleague, Detective Leading Senior Constable Neil Thompson. Look, can I be clear from the start that that footage is not Victoria Police footage, it's not body worn camera footage. Officers were executing a warrant for historic sexual offences on Desi Freeman, who was living in a caravan on the Porpanka property. His wife and at least two children were also present as police urged Freeman to come out before the shooting began. The footage that has been published this morning is from a member of the family of Desmond Freeman. All I can say is, from a Victoria Police point of view, it is both distressing and disappointing. The hunt for Freeman is into its 16th day. A reward of $1 million has led to reported sightings, but nothing confirmed. Police are settling in for the long haul. Police aren't scaling back their search and they aren't scaling back their message to visitors telling them to avoid the area. Businesses relying on tourism facing more pain and they're crying out for help. We are also working in an environment where there is a very significant police operation underway and that is a police operation that continues to change and evolve depending on the circumstances of that investigation. So there is work that is going on. We'll leave no stone unturned. He's killed two of our members and shot a third, so he presents as a significant risk to community safety.
