Severe weather is impacting the Midwest and Plains, with multiple zones experiencing strong thunderstorms. Areas from Montana to Colorado, Oklahoma, and especially from Oklahoma City through Kansas City to Illinois are seeing repeated storms. These storms are producing heavy rainfall, with some regions expected to receive up to 8 inches of rain when combining recent and current precipitation. The persistent storms are raising concerns about flooding, particularly in urban areas such as Chicago, as rain continues into the early hours and beyond.

Here's what we're tracking right now. We have two separate areas of severe weather. We'll be watching out for one zone here across the plains. We already have a severe thunderstorm warning there and western portions of Montana and these storms are just about to cross I-94 and you definitely don't want to be on the road as a severe hail producing thunderstorm is moving across a major highway. We also have some storms here down by about Colorado Springs just off Pikes Peak that are going to be just to the west of I-25 we'll be tracking, but also we have some severe storms here across. We had some severe storms across northern parts of Oklahoma just around Garfield County there in Enid. It actually looks like that storm, the southern storm, was just allowed to have a new severe thunderstorm warning so we will be watching out for widespread showers and storms here across this region and as we head forward in time, 6, 7, 8 o'clock local central time, you can see widespread showers and storms continuing across the plains. But it's going to be this zone here from Oklahoma City along I-35 through Guthrie, Wichita and Kansas City where we'll see some of the strongest storms as we head into this evening and then as we head into the overnight hours, 10, 11, 12 o'clock as we head into tonight, you'll see the storms across the high plains. Those storms will slowly start to lose some intensity. However, these storms here from Kansas City into parts of Illinois, those will actually start to re-intensify so as we head into the overnight hours by 2, 3, 4 a.m. we'll see heavy rainfall once again working its way into parts of the Chicago metro so heads up for that here as we head into tonight and that rain will persist even as the sun comes up for your early Saturday morning. So future track radar is showing that we're going to be tracking heavy rain pours, heavy rain, heavy downpours of rain here across parts mainly of Kansas into parts of Missouri and we're going to be, when you include the rainfall from yesterday to the rainfall we had today, widespread 4, 5, 6, 7, even 8 inch rainfall totals will be possible across this region.
