The attack, which occurred in the centre of Sydney and was captured on camera, saw locals use improvised weapons to subdue the attacker until authorities arrived.

Bennetts was thanked for his actions at a ceremony in Queensland, expressing that while he is honoured by the recognition, the traumatic event remains vivid in his memory. He described the intense fear he felt at the time, noting the lasting impact such incidents can have.

One of those who stepped in was firefighter Mitchell Bennetts, who today was thanked for his bravery at a ceremony in Queensland. That fight, flight or freeze is pretty powerful, so that fight instinct took over. Mitchell Bennetts says at the time he was riddled with fear as the lint siege remained fresh in his memory.
