A significant fire engulfed a spare parts auto shop in Fairfield, NSW, destroying the family-run business that had operated for 24 years. Firefighters responded to multiple emergency calls and managed to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to a nearby lithium battery manufacturing facility. 

The business, which was uninsured, suffered total loss, but the owners expressed determination to rebuild. Police and fire investigators remain on the scene, with an inquiry into the cause of the fire set to begin once the site is fully secured.

The orange glow swallowing the two storey office, warehouse and car yard as 50 firefighters take defensive positions, through hand lines, on the ground and from ladder pumpers above, to stop it spreading to a lithium battery manufacturing facility next door. We could have had a much larger fire. There's legacy fuel in and around those vehicles as well, plus the structure and oil and grease. Sat defeated, stage four cancer battler and co-owner Mohamed Machai, his family run business of 24 years, reduced to ashes. You see everything is gone, just like that, after all these years working, and especially with no insurance at all, so probably have to do everything from our own pocket. While the structural damage may be irreparable, the family's spirit is not. We have no trouble with anyone, we're a good family, good family business, but it's just unfortunate things happen in life, and it's part of our test of life. We'll start and go again. We're strong, we're young, we're my cousins, we're in our thirties, we'll go again. While the blaze was contained within an hour, the clean-ups are far from complete as it smoulders beneath the rubble. And once it's out, only then can the investigation into how it sparked begin.
