Justice Weinstein described the killing as a tragedy, noting Thompson's young age and potential. Keith Evans received a sentence of 27 years and six months, while John Evans was sentenced to 26 years and six months. Both have been in custody since their arrest, with time served accounted for, making them eligible for release in 2035. The family of Jesse Thompson continues to mourn his loss.

In sentencing, Justice Weinstein today said Mr Thompson had everything to look forward to that he was murdered so cruelly and at such a young age is a tragedy. He handed Keith Thompson a total sentence of 27 years and six months, while his father John was given 26 years and six months. John and Keith Evans have been in custody since their arrest in 2017. That time already served was taken into account today, meaning the pair will be eligible for release in 2035. For now, the father and son remain cellmates behind bars.
