A man and his two-year-old daughter are dead after a pram carrying his twin girls rolled onto train tracks at Carlton Railway Station. The father jumped onto the tracks to try and save his children from an oncoming train. The other twin daughter survived.

A tragic event occurred at a rail station when a 40-year-old father and one of his twin daughters were killed in an accident. The incident happened as a stroller with the twin two-year-old girls fell from the platform onto the tracks. The father jumped after his daughters in a brave attempt to save them as a train approached. Both the father and one of the toddlers died instantly, while the other toddler survived with minimal injuries. Police arrived swiftly and rescued the surviving child, who was returned to her mother at the scene.

The train involved was driven by a recently qualified operator with just two months of experience. Both the driver and crew are receiving support from Sydney Trains. The family involved is well-known in the Indian community of Cogra, and friends and colleagues from the father's workplace rushed to the scene. The mother and the surviving twin are currently being treated at St George Hospital.

Just after lunchtime on a sunny afternoon, a father faced an impossible situation. And the train all of a sudden just wouldn't leave the platform. A stroller with twin two-year-old girls strapped in had left the platform plummeting around a metre to the rails below. They've taken their hands off the pram for a very, very short period of time. And whether it's a gust of wind or we're not quite sure, but it appears that the tram has instantly started to roll. The father leapt after his babies as a train travelling through, not planning to stop, hurtled towards them. The father died from an extraordinary instinctive act of bravery. He gave his own life to try and save his children. The 40-year-old and one of his toddlers were killed instantly. Within minutes, police were on the scene. From beneath the carriages, they heard crying. She was sort of in between the tracks, the way that she'd fallen, and she was largely untouched. Officers climbed down and got the little girl to her mother, distraught on the platform above. I can only imagine what the surviving family members are going through. At the controls, with no time to prevent the tragedy in front of her, I'm told, was a recently qualified driver. She'd been on the rails for just two months. Both of those crew are being supported by Sydney Trains. A man who lives with the family and works for the same IT company as the father was among friends and colleagues who raced to the scene. The pair and their children are well known in the Indian community of Cogra. I live 100 metres from the station. A mother and one of her twins are still being cared for at St George Hospital.
