The family of Musawir expressed relief at the verdict but stated they will not feel fully satisfied until Davis is sentenced and imprisoned. The KCK Police Department credited its cold case unit for the breakthrough, and Davis is scheduled to be sentenced next month, facing a mandatory life sentence.

Just yesterday, I brought you the story of a cold case in Kansas City, Kansas, from 2021, and the Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office filed charges in that case just a few days ago, on Friday, in the death of a man named Leroy Linning. That was just a cold case of nearly five years, but now a cold case in KCK from the late 90s has charges. KSHB 41 Wyandotte County reporter Rachel Henderson has more. The man charged with murdering two KCK women in the late 90s received two different verdicts on Friday here at the Wyandotte County Courthouse. I'm Rachel Henderson, and I cover Wyandotte County. I spoke with one of the victim's families, which says they're still not quite relieved, despite the guilty verdict. Seconds eventually turned into years for Aaliyah Muhammad. It took too long. 1996? That's the year her mother-in-law, Samima Musawir, was murdered. It was just very haunting. He mutilated her. He tortured her. Aaliyah learned Gary Davis Sr.'s name in 2023, when the Wyandotte County District Attorney charged him with murdering Samima and another KCK woman, Christina King. Going through the trial was drooling enough. Two years later, the trial ended Friday. A jury found Davis guilty in Musawir's murder, but not guilty in King's. I'm happy with the verdict, because I believe he was guilty, yeah. The KCK Police Department credits its cold case unit for the conviction. Cold cases happen when detectives don't have sufficient leads or evidence. I feel like the family, especially the girl, should have gotten some justice before now. It's Samima's timeless traits that live on. She had a beautiful smile. I don't normally wear my scarf. I just did it because she liked wearing hers like that. Even after one guilty verdict, the clock's still ticking on justice for Aaliyah. I really won't be fully satisfied until this guy is sentenced and behind bars. Davis will be sentenced next month.
