Major wildfire fronts in Cyprus have been brought under control after destroying approximately 125 square kilometres of land in the mountainous Limassol region, half of which was grassland. Despite the containment, firefighters are maintaining a high state of alert due to the continued risk of flare-ups.

The wildfires resulted in the deaths of two people and caused severe damage to homes and infrastructure. In response, the Cypriot government has announced it will fully cover the costs of property damage for those affected by the fires.

The main fronts in wildfires that have destroyed large areas of Cyprus have been brought under control. However, firefighters remain on high alert as the risk of flare-ups continues. About 125 square kilometres of greenery was reduced to ashes in the mountainous Limassol region of which 50 per cent was grassland. The wildfires claimed the lives of two people, a 77-year-old woman and her 84-year-old husband who were found in their car. The blaze also resulted in infrastructural damage, with some homes severely damaged or even completely burnt down. The Cypriot government have now announced that it will cover 100 per cent of the damage to the properties of those affected.
