For the first time in more than two years, Israeli families are getting to see loved ones who were held in Gaza.

But we do begin in the Middle East where Israeli families are getting to see their loved ones for the first time in more than two years CBS News reporter Haley Ott has more We got to hostage square before dawn and there were already I would say about a hundred if not more people there and they just continued flowing into the square during the day There have been a number of partial hostage releases before but what happened today was unlike any other day and people were Excited they were hopeful. They were also Cautious and wanted to protect their hearts in case something fell through at the last minute There were two moments where hostages were handed over and eventually taken into Israel People together at this point hundreds and hundreds of them were watching the news on screens and and Many were crying some were dancing some were singing The the choreography was different than in other handovers. There wasn't any big ceremony Inside Gaza put on by Hamas that we've seen in other handovers So it was just word that we got from the Red Cross From the IDF that now the living hostages had finally been brought home And when I asked how people were feeling at the end of the day after all of this had happened Pretty much. Everyone told me that they were still processing. They were obviously very relieved and joyful and and Grateful to have the living hostages home But this has been such a long ordeal that that it's going to take a bit of time for it to really sink in All right, Haley odd. Well, Nancy, it's good to be with you Certainly a momentous day for this administration as President Trump speaking to the Israeli parliamentary body today Talking about the moment really of bringing the hostages home and having this step towards peace But there was a moment he did go off script and when it was when he was talking about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu President Trump at one point turning to the president of Israel Mr. Herzog and saying to him that he should pardon Netanyahu who has been indicted on bribery charges in Israel now this is related to a 2019 investigation of the Prime Minister alleging that he had taken cigars in champagne as part of this Bribery and fraud charges that he is alleged to have committed. So President Trump in a quite an extraordinary Turn in this moment saying to their president Perhaps you should pardon him and it kind of speaks to the relationship between the two leaders of President Trump and Netanyahu that Throughout the day as President Trump was talking about Netanyahu saying that he's given me a hard time that we have had Arguments disagreements in the past, but this is so much more important Than what has happened between the two of them in their relationship while emphasizing that their relationship is quite strong now and thanking him For all of his efforts so quite notable there that that got that that snuck in throughout the the news of the day Yeah, absolutely Olivia a bit of a whirlwind trip to say the least for the president later the president also spoke in Egypt Talking about rebuilding Gaza. How did he lay out his vision for the territory moving forward? Well, he said that it's going to be a process and an expensive one at that the president did commend other Arab leaders for offering to Pay money to help redevelop Gaza, but he did note that this is going to take time And he said that they are focused right now on restoring what he said is the basics of life Just human decency homes there for the people of Gaza as they look to rebuild the region.
