Medical professionals and accident victims stress the importance of wearing helmets and using proper safety equipment. Doctors also recommend that riders understand road safety rules and that drivers remain vigilant to prevent collisions, as efforts to improve street safety for e-device users continue.

Electric scooters and e-bikes are popping up under Christmas trees in Las Vegas, but after recent accidents and tragic deaths, parents and first responders are making sure that people know the dangers before they buy one. That was a question I had asked viewers back in December. I wanted to know how locals felt about electric devices, and the overwhelming response that I heard was that viewers are scared for the safety of these riders. I did some digging to see what hospitals were seeing, and I learned 2025 saw an enormous amount of these cases, and it looks like that will trend into the new year. The numbers are in, and it's showing a troubling trend for e-devices here in the Las Vegas Valley. Sunrise Trauma Center saw 253 cases involving e-devices, well surpassing what the hospital expected to see for 2025. I wanted to know how those cases were trending into the new year. The trauma center says it saw one crash each day for the first 10 days of January. It's important to note that these cases were going to the trauma center at Sunrise because of the severity of the injuries. I introduced you to Mason Huff last month after he suffered a traumatic brain injury, broken bones, and a cracked skull from his e-scooter injury. Mason told us how important it is to wear a helmet after he wasn't wearing one when he was hit. It isn't worth it. The helmet is definitely worth it. But it isn't just Mason who agrees on that. Doctors also urging anyone who buys one of these devices to also purchase the proper equipment. One local I spoke with even sharing with me what he sees when he rides his scooter on the streets. It's scary because the sidewalks are so narrow. You're right next to fast moving cars. So you don't have space. Sometimes I'm on my scooter and I'm on the sidewalk and if I fall or something, something happens and I'm right next to an active lane. Doctors want anyone who rides an electric bike or scooter to know the rules of the road. Crashes happen when drivers don't see riders before turning or changing lanes. They recommend double checking mirrors, yielding at intersections, and giving riders extra space, especially at night. Doctors told me they're not trying to share this information to scare any of the riders, but make sure that they have the proper equipment when they're riding them on the streets.
