The spotted lanternfly, an invasive insect, has been identified as a growing threat in at least 18 states. Known for its distinctive appearance and voracious appetite, the pest targets trees, fruits, and can lay eggs on a variety of surfaces, including patio furniture.

Authorities are urging the public to act if they encounter the spotted lanternfly, especially as they tend to gather at dusk. Recommended actions include stunning and squashing the insects to help control their spread and protect local environments.
