There was already a shortage at Newark Airport and now schools have part of this week off. News 12's Lauren Du at Newark Airport talking to travelers. This week has become known as Jersey Week, Election Day on Tuesday and schools are closed on Thursday and Friday for the Teachers' Convention. So many families take off from school and work and go on vacation like hopping on a plane to Orlando. I'm going to Universal. We're going to Disney. Okay, I'm sure they will be way more enthusiastic once they are at the parks having fun. It's not easy waiting around when you're delayed. You know what, that's what it is with travel, especially in Newark Airport. And with the government shutdown, staffing shortages at control towers are causing groundlings. Yesterday, flights headed to Newark were temporarily held on the ground and departures from Newark were delayed because the gates stay occupied when arrivals are backed up. Whatever delays we encounter, they're to be expected. But hopefully Jersey knows how to do it right and we'll get it going. I'm not worried because I'm kid-free this week, so my kids are off at a different destination and we're going somewhere else. Lucky to be off this week, but just think, you could be rushing back home just to make it to class. Our flight was supposed to be at 6 a.m., but it's now delayed by two and a half hours, so we're just trying to kill some time. School, you know, you'll have to be off school for the first half, so that's the thing that we're concerned about. And if you're flying out this week, keep checking in with your airline.
