Around 1,000 props from some of the most popular movies and TV shows ever made are going up for sale at an auction in LA this week. They include the glasses worn by Daniel Radcliffe in the first Harry Potter film and the light saber used by Darth Vader in Star Wars.

A selection of iconic movie memorabilia is being auctioned at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Among the highlights is the lightsaber used by Darth Vader in the Star Wars films, with an estimated value between $1 and $3 million. Other notable items include Indiana Jones' bullwhip, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 2 suit, and the neuralyzer from Men in Black. The lightsaber was discovered after its owner contacted the auction house, prompting extensive research to authenticate the prop. The auction follows previous high-profile sales, including a Star Wars X-Wing replica that fetched $2.3 million.

Those auctions take place at the Pedersen Automotive Museum right across the Oscars Museum in the west side of Los Angeles. And there's a lot to have all the movie fans excited. There's the bullwhip from Indiana Jones, the suit worn by Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 2, estimated at $200,000, the neuralyzer from Men in Black, a device that makes you forget that maybe you paid $150,000 to buy it, and obviously the big star of the show, the lightsaber from Darth Vader, the one that he holds when he tells Luke Scott Walker that he's his dad, with a price estimated between $1 and $3 million. A lot of people have said, how did you find it? The honest answer to that question is it found us. The gentleman cold called in and he said, look, I've had this in my garage for many, many years. It's an original lightsaber from the films. He didn't actually know which specific character had used it, but he brought it in shortly after and we embarked on our research process. We did a lot of research with it. We even x-rayed it. You can see some of the x-ray images. We're really thrilled to have this one. It's something that I've known about for seven or eight years. And I just think it's a remarkable costume design. I think it's brilliant and striking and something that everybody is immediately familiar with. There's a very big following for Quentin Tarantino specifically, and I know a lot of film fans who would say that this is actually one of their very favorite Tarantino movies. It's just a lot of fun. I think especially collectors who are based here in L.A., they love the Hollywood aspect of it. The previous record for prop store that takes care of those auctions was $2.3 million, and it was already something from the Star Wars universe, a replica of the X-Wing spaceship.
