Tropical Storm Lorenzo won't be a threat to anyone, but forecasters are closely watching a tropical wave that could be headed toward the Caribbean.

Meteorologists are currently monitoring a tropical wave in the Atlantic Ocean for potential development into a named storm. While Tropical Storm Lorenzo is present, it poses no threat to land and is struggling with wind shear. The tropical wave under observation has a low chance of development due to challenging environmental conditions, including wind shear and its trajectory. If the wave manages to remain in a favorable position, it could become more organized and potentially be named Melissa. The system's future path could determine if it poses a threat to the United States, with a northward track likely offering protection due to a dip in the jet stream.

we still have a lot going on in the Atlantic. So let's talk about the current threats, especially to us here in the U. S. So Lorenzo is on the map. That is not a concern for any landmass. Just showing you we've checked off the L name on the list for the year, but we do have a tropical wave that we're tracking as well. So first look at Lorenzo and why I'm saying it's not a concerned any landmass, a little bit of an odd path that it's taking, but stays a tropical storm status. I will say it's struggling right now, fighting in some wind shear and not doing the best. But again, not necessarily something we need to be concerned about. Here's what you do want on your radar, though. We're tracking that tropical wave. I showed you that is where we're highlighting a low chance of development. The 19th and 23rd sleds this weekend through about mid next week. I'm calling this a Goldilocks scenario. Let's walk through exactly why I'm saying that. So on our wind shear map, I have a bubble. This is where a tropical wave is. And if you remember the darker purple on this map, that's higher, stronger wind shear, light purple. That's what the tropical wave wants. Strong wind shear that is not going to help it strengthen, develop to a named storm. So it's fighting some of that right off the bat. And if it goes a little too far north, well, it sees more strong wind shear. If it goes a little too far to the south, there's more of that dark purple peaking in. But also it goes too far to the south as it works its way across the Atlantic. It runs into South America. That's not gonna help its development either. So it has to be in just the right location for just the right amount of time to strengthen to a named storm. So here's how that might happen if it's going to overcome some of those conditions and move in exactly the right location. So through Friday, not really a concern. It stays unorganized. However, we're really gonna watch this weekend. If it gains just a little bit of latitude again, not too much, then it could strengthen and start to get a little bit more organized next week. If it's going to become a named storm, that's when it's gonna happen. Melissa is the next name on the list. Late next week, though, there's a fork in the road, as there often is. If it moves its way into the Caribbean, then we have a problem for the U. S. To the north, though, that dip in the jet stream should protect us for expert insight.
