US President Donald Trump indicated that US funding could be at risk unless Colombia takes more aggressive action against coca cultivation and cocaine trafficking.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro and other officials have strongly rejected the decertification, emphasizing record cocaine seizures and the dismantling of drug labs. Petro and his administration argue that the US evaluation is politically motivated and fails to recognize Colombia's progress, especially in voluntary crop substitution. The move has heightened political tensions between the two countries, with Colombian leaders urging the US to address its own domestic drug issues.

US President Donald Trump on Monday said Colombia, among several other countries, had failed demonstrably in keeping to anti-drug agreements over the past year. As a result, Washington has decertified the country's anti-narcotics agency, saying it failed to curb cocaine production. That could put at risk US funding for the country. Trump said that he would consider changing the designation if Colombia's government takes more aggressive action to eradicate coca and reduce the production and trafficking of cocaine. At a national address, country president Gustavo Petro responded angrily. They decertify us even though we are the ones who seized the most cocaine in history, who have dismantled thousands of labs, the most in history. This is political. The Colombian right wing, who are actually linked to drug trafficking, have convinced US right wing officials because they believe more in ideology than in effectiveness. Trump's declaration blamed Petro's government for seeking accommodation with narco-terrorist groups. Colombian Senator Sandra Ramirez said Washington should put its own house in order first, saying the US should do more to tackle organized crime and drug demand within its borders. Interior Minister Armando Benedetti also said that there had been progress in curbing cocaine production. All the figures are extremely good. This year alone, around 700 tons of cocaine have been seized. The issue is that they evaluate based on forced eradication of crops, and that's where the balance is off. What this government wants is voluntary eradication through crop substitution. Now the decertification increases pressure on President Petro's administration, which came to power promising peace agreements and rural development. Trump's declaration says those policies have failed to deliver results, claiming cocaine production has reached record highs under Petro's rule.

On the same day a ground offensive was launched in Gaza City, a United Nations Commission of Inquiry report concluded Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, a finding emphatically denied by Israeli officials.
