The debate intensified as senators were ordered to remove flags used as props, in accordance with Senate rules, and calls were made to foster national pride.

Controversy also arose after Senator Jacinta Nampajimpa-Price falsely claimed that the government was increasing Indian migration for political gain. The comments were disavowed by her colleagues, who highlighted the positive contributions of the Indian community. In Western Sydney, members of the Indian community expressed fear and concern in the wake of anti-immigration rallies.

I don't believe I have anything to apologise about. Her colleagues distancing themselves from the comments as not to isolate Australia's second largest and fastest growing migrant community. The Indian community make a wonderful contribution. They've been involved in every imaginable aspect of life in this country.
