The Baynow One chip, developed in Beijing, has enabled an ALS patient to regain her voice by implanting a coin-sized device in her brain, allowing her to communicate through a computer.

The Baynow One is a semi-invasive, wireless BCI system, and its development underscores China’s growing capacity to commercialize advanced brain technologies. The team behind Baynow One is already working on a next-generation chip, Baynow Two, which aims to restore both speech and mobility for patients worldwide, pending safety and efficacy approvals.

Her voice restored after a coin-sized chip was implanted into the top of her brain. The breakthrough chip is called Baynow One, a semi-invasive and wireless brain-computer interface or BCI system. China has definitely shown the ability to not just catch up, but also then be competitive and now actually to start also to drive the field in some areas. If it's proven to be safe and effective, then we can get approval so that it can be used clinically across the world. Baynow One is also underway for the next generation Baynow Two, a chip to restore speech, mobility and hope from a lab in China.
